Adding a stroke segment to a photograph
In Photoshop CC, the vase was selected using the Quick Selection tool; the selection was saved using Select > Save Selection; a new layer was created and the selection loaded; an 11 point black stroke was added to the selection using Edit > Stroke; Eraser tools were used to remove the layer background and edit the stroke. The remaining stroke segment helps define the vase and will go unnoticed.
A less saturated version of the vase...
Yes, too much time on my hands.

That time in your hands gave you excellent results. I enjoyed the tutorial and will copy and paste in my Word processor so I will have that technique in my head (and of course, my file). Did I forgot to mention it is an excellent shot and pp?
Oh, btw, I prefer the intensity of #1.

Re: Adding a stroke segment to a photograph
Thank you. Of course, as an afterthought, the ends of the stroke could have been tapered using a simple select + cut process.

A striking image. Thanks for posting. I have never experimented with that.

This is very much what happens when we sharpen an image. It's also not a new technique. If you have a look at El Greco's paintings from the 1500's you will notice he uses the black stroke to accentuate edges in a lot of his work.

Re: Adding a stroke segment to a photograph
interesting technique, any chance a version of the vase without the stroke could be shown so we can better see the delta?
