    Lenscoat

Has anyone used Lenscoat (http://www.lenscoat.com/lenscoat%C2%...00-p-2266.html) in the rain? Does it protect the lens or does it get wet and hold the water around the lens?

I am considering the purchase of one to protect my new 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II lens...

I have never used it. However, even if it does hold water around the lens, you could use an inexpensive rain cover to protect both the lens and the cover. In other words, the worst-case scenario is that you would use only the Lenscoat to protect the lens in dry weather and add a rain cover when it's raining.

Richard - when I look at the design, it looks like it won't do a lot for you. This product looks more like a vanity cover than something that will actually prevent water from penetrating. This set seems to have numerous gaps in the coverings and if water manages to squeeze in, you will more than likely get water trapped between the cover and the lens. That could actually increase the risk of water penetration into the lens body, making things works, not better.

Unless you have a contiguous, one piece rain cover that goes over the lens and camera body, as Mike has already suggested, I would be nervous shooting in the rain this cover over the lens. If you have to go the route of a rain cover, they why would you bother buying this?

I assumed Richard wanted to use it to protect the surface of the lens barrel from nicks, scratches and the like to improve resale value.

With all the questions about rain and water, I assumed he was concerned about keeping the lens dry.

I have the Storm cover from Vortex but I haven't had the chance to use it yet because I really do not want to go out in the rain just to photograph anything.
