    Quite some 'tache...

This gypsy cob pony, who arrived here last week whilst I was away, is apparently about two years old. Last year his father lived in the same riverside field. I heard a rumour that the owner had had him shot because he had nowhere to keep him, but it seems, fortunately, that this wasn't true, though I'm not sure where he is now. Junior briefly mistook my camera bag for a carrot bag, but was co-operative when I explained that I needed a photo of his rather impressive facial hair.

Perhaps less information would have been better.

The very concept is disturbing to me is all.

    Hi Chauncey,

I visited the ponies almost daily last year, feeding them carrots. A busybody woman was the cause of them being removed from the field and later I heard the rumour about their fate. I was very upset. If I'd been able to contact the owner, I'd have bought them (and given them to a horse sanctuary, having nowhere to keep them myself). Turns out that the rumour was untrue, which has cheered me up greatly, and now I've got this chap and an in-foal mare to visit here, and hopefully a foal soon too. Buying my first carrots tomorrow...

That first shot is awesome Dave, I'm glad the rumour isn't true but I loved the bluntness of it.

    Thanks Matt,

When I saw this pony for the first time, (no camera!!), his moustache was dry and even more impressive: when I took this the wet grass had flattened it a bit. It was quite a challenge to get this, having to crouch down, and several photos I took have him almost on the end of the lens (I was using my Fuji X100 in macro mode, my bike ride camera). I may get a better pic before long, but these 'taches tend to rub away during the summer. (I hadn't actually realised I'd been so blunt in giving the background!)

    Cheers,

    Dave

Ah...you are OK...You can not please everybody at all times...William is just playing grumpy. He'll get over it. He usually does.

I am glad you like horsies. There's a lot of photo ops with them around especially, human interaction. Is this happy chappy staying in your property? I like your POV of the 'tache...interesting..

Thanks Izzie, good to know its not me!

These ponies are on an area of wasteland by the riverside here. Various ponies have been kept here over the past few years and I have taken lots of pictures over that time and spent lots on carrots and picked and fed them blackberries in autumn. There have been several foals over time, but when the busybody complained to the landowner last year and the ponies were taken away, I thought I wouldn't see them again, so it cheered me up to see these here. The owner comes down every day to move them to a fresh patch. I don't really like to see them tethered, but it is probably no worse than being shut up in a stable. At least the grass here is always lush.
