Yes, more kids portraits... what can I say? I have a portrait lens and a family weekend C&C welcome as always - these all have different PP approaches.

Great shots Simon, first one is my fave.

These are the type of portrait shots my friends have asked for of their kids, I think the standing with a fake smile against a white background is dying out!

Cheers Matt. My sister had some shots done of her two a couple of years ago - the set up the photographer used was really interesting. He had white walls on three sides, lit with a strobe uplighter to create a high key background, and then a key light at the front that covered the whole area. He then got the kids to run around and play games, so he could capture natural smiles. Because of the white background on three sides, he could shoot from anywhere - so it was about him moving, and not the kids.

I've always felt there is a gap in the market for a family photographer to document family days out, but it would be expensive to do and pressure - you'd have to present something decent you the client at the end of the day, like a wedding, except you don't have an itinerary to work to.

I don't think it would be. expensive, but you are right about the wedding comparison - except its not a one off so less pressure You'll miss them when I stop posting them

Simon...they are all naturally beautiful, especially because she is your kid -- her playfullness in #1 and #3 and your love shows very much in taking them. All of them has good camera eye contact. I like the colour layers of her hair in #2. Does she have another sibling she can interact with... just asking...

Thanks Izzie - no, no other little ones in this household at the moment, but who knows what the future holds...

Nice shots, what does she think about the captures; does she have a preference?

She can recognise herself in the pictures but she's not quite two yet, so is still developing her sense of self. One day she will tell me she hates all of them, but it's me that wants to look at them, not her!

She does tell me that sunset pictures are "pretty", and loves looking at pictures on the Internet. Mostly she like pictures of dogs and squirrels though - unfortunately I like pictures of architecture, landscape and people so we have to compromise

I think most children see their features as specifically shaped, just look at a child's drawing; I wondered if she critiqued any of your images by saying the eyes looked funny? I read somewhere that we humans have issues recognizing themselves in photos and the only true replication of ourselves is what we see in the mirror.

I'd not heard of that before, but it is interesting. Her language skills aren't good enough yet to tell me these things but it won't be long, there are new words and levels of understanding every day at her age.

Very nice captures. I really like #2 but, the color balance seems a bit off (might be my monitor). The posted image seems a bit over yellow-green to me...

Thanks Richard. Yes, whenever I use the Nik colour effects it throws the original white balance - but in this case I quite liked the effect so I didn't try to correct it, in fact I used the gold reflector filter to add to the yellow tone. It's quite stylised and won't be to everyone's taste I know, it's a bit Instagram, but it made for some fun experimentation.

How do you think that's happening, Simon? Just opening up the Colour Efex Pro filter should not impact on white balance in any way at all. I don't understand what's happening if you're getting that.

I think it's the filters I use Donald - I don't think its a problem with the programme, just a problem with me clicking on multiple filters, going "ooo, pretty" and then saving without noticing what I've done. I haven't worked Nik into my workfolow at all yet, I tend to treat it as a novelty toy just because I haven't learnt how to use the software properly yet.

If interested, here's the original practically SOOC:

I quite like the one you submitted first because the eyes there is more prettier.

A few more from recent outings for c&c, just because I haven't posted many people pictures in recent weeks. I thought I wouldn't start a new thread for more kids pictures.

Too soft across the face? I think it works but maybe it needs a crop from the right.
