Hi Matt, an interesting image. I looked at it in the light box and I think I might be inclined to crop for a letterbox format, removing most of the sky. I think it washes out the dune area and removes focus from the middle ground?
And with my 'meteorological' hat on, it looks like rain was on the way![]()
Thanks James - I have a few shots without the sky but the composition looked off!
There was no rain - the sun was still beaming for another 2 hours until I left!
Hi Matt,
Was it possible to get closer, nicely presented but a bit too far away to feel the atmosphere.
I agree with James about the format. When viewed at full size in lytebox, a bit is cropped off top and bottom and it looks much better as it puts more attention on the cows - and distant people.

Ah.... the cows were lying .... my grandfather, who was a farmer, always used to tell me, as a child, that cows lie down when it's going to rain.![]()
Hmmm...that is an interesting statement...when I was living in Melbourne (Oz) most of the cows in the paddock lies because they are contented. Going towards New South Wales, most of the cows were standing and the paddock looks drier. (No offense meant to the NSW-ers)...
Anyway, Matt, I think this shot has many facets and different shots. Call the original one an overview, then do some close-r up of the scenes with the mountains then with the beach then with the cows/people integrated. This will solve your dilemma. Just a thought.
I like the encompassing composition of the location, but find the sky adds little of interest for me; when viewing at 100% in LyteBox, I am happiest when almost all the sky is lost. I would retain all the foreground.
I enjoy being able to follow the meanderings of the river, and various paths in the dunes and hills, plus observe the human and bovine clientèle.
