That is a marvelous pair of shots, Kay. You are right in that the second could use a little more PP. Not much, but just bring out the color and contrast in the woodwork and boost the clouds just a little.I particularly like the curve of the road leading me down into the valley.

Thanks Pops - I plan to have a go and reprocessing when I have some time using advice Peter Ryan gave in a thread about exposing foreground & background using 1 image - not an area where I have experience as yet.

I also can say that I really needed 3 attempts
1 to say - yep that might be a subject
2 to say - here's what I wanted after it caught my eye
and 3 - which I didn't get, would have been to go back and take the same shot an hour or so later when the sun would have been just starting to set to the left - that would have been better.

By popular request...well two people. I repost these shots in this thread. The first shot was along the lines of "I wonder what that would look like on blue". The relative complexity of the shape did not give the desired effect. The second was as a result of pausing to think about impact. "what about b/w. It is in keeping with the subject", close crop to introduce some impact and a 40 degree tilt to suggest motion. It was obvious that the model could not be made to look 'real' so the high contrast and simple form was an attempt to make the image suggestive.

Well whoever they are - they are 2 very clever people! these are a terrific example of the lesson I think.
the terms 'wouldn't have thought of' & 'million years' spring to mind

Steve, I really like this set. The only problem I have with it is that my particular goofy mind keeps wondering how to acomplish a slight propeller blur in that shot.

I often do that very thing. I remember one where I had to wait several months for the sun to get to the proper angle in the sky for the shadows I wanted.

Would a hair dryer positioned out of frame, just blowing enough on low setting with one of those wide diffuser thingys be something that would work?
The plane would need to be slightly off the ground to give room to turn as well.

I don't have one, but the Fashionista has several with all manner of different attachments that could do the trick

Hmmmm, that might work. Make a support out of wire coat hanger to elevate it? Experiment from a distance, first. We'd both be in trouble with the young'un if you blew off the table and broke it.

That may be pushing it. In the photographic cause I disappear with nail varnish bottles, thigh high boots and killer heels. WireVixen may get worried if I start packing a hairdryer too.

So..I tried motion blur in GIMP. Not quite right on the wings methinks

True, not quite but close. I think less blur, showing just a bit of motion of each blade is what I had envisioned. (Am I getting picky, picky? )
