Hi Matt,
Bizarre, I can't say I've seen that before! (is this in Wales?). Any possibility that they were moving tethered grazing ponies to a new grass patch in the field? "My" ponies have tethers of about that length. Looks more like "dog walking" though, I must say. Some years ago there was a chap in Leicester who used to walk a lamb on a lead (he was a West Indian, not a Welshman). More mundanely, maybe some sort of behavioural training.

Leading the horse to pasture...this must be where that saying came from...or should it be, the horse leading the human to pasture?Sorry I have no response to you regarding your question but I sure like to know the answer...
Yes its Wales Dave - I wish I'd asked them now. I know theres a pony trekking centre nearby... If either of you visit Wales make sure you visit the Gower and let me know I'll be your guide

Thanks Matt,
I'd love to see the Gower. I know north Pembrokeshire well and went to Conwy last week (maybe some photos on here soon). My brother now lives in Ynysddu and I've been once, but his wife is rather difficult to get on with, so I haven't been again, unfortunately.

That looks like a deep gully behind them, perhaps its to keep them from tumbling down.
