Very nice shots.They are Damselflies.
I find that with these long insects it is vital to get absolutely square with them in order to get as much as possible in focus. But, in reality, this can be very hard to actually achieve; and you often only get a few seconds for one quick shot, without any 'thinking time'.
This one which superficially resembles Steve's specimen is a UK species which has the appropriate common name of Beautiful Demoiselle. This is the female, the male has a very bright blue body and dark wings.
And even with 2 tripod legs in the stream, and me lying in mud, I couldn't quite get the perfect angle.
