Removing sticks is something I've been meaning to learn. I often find them a problem.

Now, let us see...which of the sticks would you have liked to remove? On the right side you can gently use the patch tool with the Content Aware option at the top bar...do it slowly and little by little, or select a little bit bigger in chunks, move the chunk to the right until you see the blue replaced in your image of what used to be a stick. Start on the small bits of sticks first, then graduate to the trunks. There might be some portions that cannot use the patch tool, so use the Fill tool -- select a portion of your stick, press down Shift +F5, make sure it has Content Aware on the box, then press OK, or short cut Edit/Fill.

As John said, this image is busy but somehow, you can get away without removing any sticks.

PS skills is important in "creating images"...in this image I would have made a matching blue image and
moved a selection of the bird and the branch on which it sits onto that blue image.

With this image I would consider simply cropping slightly tighter on the right side and top instead of cloning anything.

Then again, that might not be practical and may even be illegal... Your way is better

I not keen on the idea of modifying photos too much digitally, so I am very grateful to have an analogue solution as well Richard.
( I carry a pair of secateurs in my camera bag.)

I did what you suggested and I understand what you mean. I tried to post the result, but I confess to having a lot of trouble with this site, and was unable to post. Thank you for taking the time to consider my problem and provide an answer.
