This could also be a tutorial illustrating that when shot at a distance, moving subjects can be stopped by a slower shutter speed and also when the subject is close and going across your frame, it takes a faster shutter speed to freeze than when the subject is coming straight towards you.
I have seen formulas wherein the speed, relative size and angle of approach can be input to determine the shutter speed needed. However, unless done in a controlled scientific experiment, such formulas are too cumbersome for any photographer...
