Very nice images John and I really like the composition, the light and the framing of #1 , nice presentation![]()
I noticed the good presentation of the first sea gull...It has the look of a dejected birdie, the eyes looks so sad...But it is a very nice shot. Maybe something is wrong with its eyes...
Thanks John, thanks Binnur, thanks Izzie. Izzie, I think he just has a meaner looking eye.
I really like the second image.....classic pose.

Nice shots, John. Spot on techs. Nice isolation against a complimentary BG in the second image. The bird in the first shot looks like either a nearly grown juvie or molting away breeding plumage maybe?
Gulls are really beautiful birds. Though somewhat annoying at times![]()
Nice shots, John, especially the second one. Common birds get no respect. But beautiful photos can still be made of them. The only nit I have is that I don't find the color of your framing in the second one to be complimentary. But a really nice photo!
Thanks Dave, Dan and Terri
...especially when they pinch your French fries.
There's a very old music hall joke about a couple at the seaside. When a seagull, as they do, makes a deposit on her hat, she says to her hubby, "Oh, for goodness sake, go and get some toilet paper!" To which he replies " Don't be silly woman, it'll be miles away by now",

Great shots there, especially the second one of the lesser black backed gull. It could easily be used in a photo guide to gulls.
Gulls are just great but some gulls (in the UK it is mainly herring gulls) get a bad press, but they are like almost every other animal - opportunists. It is just that herring gulls are big, fast, at some times loud and comfortable being in the proximity of humans, so they get noticed; and a human with chips is fair and easy game.
