Very pretty image, composition and color. Was this shot indoors? The water drops have a long, highlight reflection like a fluorescent tube or something similar. A macro lens and flowers really go together. You'll have lots of fun with it. I like to shoot indoors when I can to better control the lighting, composition, background and perhaps use stack focusing and not contend with wind. Enjoy your new toy.

purple is tough and even tougher with an Iris. Looking good. Here's hoping I do as well when the 90 gets here

Like Paul, I was wondering what you had used to illuminate the shot that caused all those rectangular 'catch-lights' in the drops Kim.

If I may say; it is a very artistic 'first' macro posting, but perhaps we shouldn't be surprised when we know you took it

Can I also ask; is that natural water, or something you applied?
(e.g. it may not be just water)

I would rather that Kim shake off some of the water. Too many of them forming that elongated light formations. I have a 105mm and it is my go to lens along with the extension tubes. 105mm is also a good lens for portraiture.

Hi everyone. Sorry for the slow response, I was out of town. Thank you for the comments. My real love is photographing people and animals, but since they are not always available, and sometimes it's hard to convince people to get in front of the camera... thought I would explore a little (and being behind the camera is where I find peace since the tragic loss of my brother). As Izzie mentioned, I also like the 105 for portraits, so it can be multi-purpose.

Honestly, I have struggled a but with the macro - specifically getting everything in focus that I want. I do need to read about using the lens, but my style of learning is - use first and then read as it's easier for me to understand and it sinks in better. Thanks to those who mentioned focus stacking - I'm sure that will be discussed once I start doing some reading.

This was shot outside - after a rain storm. I do like the amount of water droplets (what mother nature left) on the petals as it reminds me a jewels :-) Paul, good mention on the lighting and Binnur guessed correct - it was my Ice Light. What do you all think -- is that reflection distracting? Not sure a non-photogrpaher would notice them. Paul, I was contending with a slight breeze.
