    Life's a beach

Some shots taken over the weekend, most of them with a circular polariser. Comments welcome.

    4. No CPL on this one: shot with my 75-300 kit lens, and at full zoom anything slower than 1/500 is going to be fuzzy. But I thought the clouds came out nicely anyway.

    6. Was in two minds about having my shadow in the below pic, but eventually went with it. It's a bit different to the usual sunset shadow, and also I had to be at that angle to get the composition AND the polarising.

Really a nice set, Simon. IMO no.2 would have been more powerful if the fisherman was off-center in the frame. Don't much care for nos.5 and 6. The structure in the photos isn't all that interesting. The sky in the last one is awesome. Overall nicely done.

I like #s 1 & 2 the best, they are both beautiful, but in each I would crop off some of the sky.

In #1, I would crop off the blue sky above the clouds...

In #2, I would crop off a significant portion of the sky. The clouds, which are beautiful, overwhelm the fisherman and compete with the rocks which are certainly exceptionally beautiful. Cropping off some of the clouds would put the horizon right at about the top 1/3 (rule of thirds) line of this image and, I think, places more emphasis on the rocks...

Obviously, working from the original would provide better quality

I did consider cropping of some of the bottom rocks but, they act as wonderful leading lines towards the fisherman and the sky. I realize that the fisherman is only a tiny part of the aggregate image but, still think that the 50/50 horizon line of image #2 places emphasis nowhere...

I like the 4th and 5th, Simon. I think both are interesting ways of presenting the cloud formations.
