    Boathouses or houses for boats

Taken from across the bay as I stood in the parking lot of a shinny new marina with many slips full of big expensive boats. Made me feel like these old boathouses were somehow pushed aside in favor of the new marina.

I like it. The image conveys the feeling of being old and neglected. I'm only an amituer, so take my critique with a grain of salt, but to me the trees above and behind are somehow distracting.

I like the image and very much like the mood, but I agree with Ernie. The way you have this processed, it almost looks like the trees are covered in snow, or like an IR photo. The bright foliage pulls my eye away from the boathouses. I think that if you crop a lot off the top (I tried one that has the higher ridge line about 60% of the way up the cropped image) and tone down the processing, you would have a real winner, something that is worth hanging.

Thank you for the comments. I will try a different crop and less PP. I tried something different in this image that I had never done before. This was a HDR color image made from 3 exposures. After I did the HDR processing in color I then did the conversion. Sure brings out the detail, but in this case it may be too much.

Ah, that makes sense. I really was stumped, trying to figure out what might have caused that appearance. Anyway, I think it's worth trying alternatives. You've got a great capture to work with.

The vitality and growth of the living trees contrasted with the death and demise of the old boat houses, both messages enhanced by the processing. Leave it alone Dave, it is a good image; except for the white plastic chairs on the left - clone them out.

    Cheers.

Funny you mentioned the chairs Philip. Every time I look at this image the chairs bug me more and more. They will be history next time I fire up Lightroom.
