Absolutely but not all the time. The monopod supports the weight when not shooting, does provide additional stability when available and provides a convenient handle near the point of balance when shooting.
I wouldn't want to have to shoot handheld with these two after holding them at eyelevel for a few minutes waiting for the shot.
I agree with Brian (Saorsa) even though I do not have a monopod, I will soon. Better than nothing to stabilize your camera. I have the 150mm -- 500mm zoom and had only used it once or let us say, I still can count on my fingers how many times I used it because it is too heavy without something helping me to carry it. You might not because you are more stronger than me. I love that lens no matter. The reach is amazing. Now I want a 1.4x TC...Go figure...
