Caregiver and her charge

Taken a few weeks ago in Edward's Gardens, a large park and botanical garden here in Toronto.
I noticed a woman carefully attending to an older woman. I approached and struck up a conversation with the young woman who explained that she was the elderly lady's caregiver, rather than her daughter.
Her very tender attention to the old woman was so wonderful, I asked if I might take an informal portrait of the two, and she was kind enough to say yes.

The essence for me of this photo is the comfort the older woman feels under the care of the younger woman. Well done!

I think it's a great photo, you've handled the light really well especially with that hat to deal with.

My reading of the image is different to Mikes. For me, the care and affection from the younger lady is apparent but the elderly lady still looks distant, and somewhat disconnected - like she is alone despite being enveloped in care. It's an interesting look.

While I spoke to the caregiver, the old woman paid no attention to either of us, and I suspect she may be suffering from Alzheimer's or some other similar problem.
