Does anyone use the Canon EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 STM lens?
Has anyone used the new EF 24-105 mm f/3.5-5.6 STM lens?
It certainly is a low priced alternative to other medium range zooms for full frame Canon cameras! It goes for less than $400 USD in some markets, for a new lens.
I realize that the variable aperture could propose some problems but, wonder how good the I.Q. and A/F speed is. In comparison say to the 24-105 mm f/4L IS lens...
The 24-105 mm is a pretty nice focal range for full frame cameras...
However, a used 24-105 mm f/4L IS lens can be had for less than $500 on eBay USA...

Hi Richard,
This thread had over 70 views and no responses.
I have tried to re-phrase the title as more of a question to attract a reply - I'm sure someone here must use that lens.
It might help if we knew your reason to ask, since I gather you have the L series, why (apparently) 'downgrade'?
Or is it a second lens for another body?
Or as a replacement?
Or does it have a feature the L does not? (smaller, lighter, quieter, etc.)
Thanks, Dave

Thanks Dave...
I don't have a mid-range zoom which will work on my 5DII camera. I shoot with a 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens as my mid range zoom on my crop cameras and miss that range on the 5DII.
I didn't even know that the 24-105 STM version existed. I do have a 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens which I bought with my first DSLR (Canon 10D) and which is an EF lens. The 28-135 isn't all that great but, I would not want to even think of the STM unless the IQ was quite good. No sense of buying a lens that is not much better than the 28-135mm.
I am not really sure if I want to get a lens specifically for the 5DII or whether I want to sell the 5DII plus one of my 7D cameras and purchase a 7DII (for which I have a collection of quite good lenses).
I am just investigating my avenues...
