    Another Farm: A Kentish evening

It's been a dull and rainy first day on the farm in Kent. Coming home from a pub dinner in the evening I was beginning to see some colour in the sky. A bit of a temperature increase was bringing some mist off the fields. I wasn't really happy with the shots I was getting so I used the D750 in-camera HDR to see it a bit differently.

This is the result. A bit of touchup in FastStone increasing saturation, dropping the green a bit and bringing up the red channel.

I like this scene...the foreground, the layers of mists afar and the subtle colour of the clouds framed between the trees is like spying to look at another world. Nicely done -- doesn't look much like HDR .

Maaayyyybbeee There's a dinosaur out there!!!

The in-camera HDR doesn't ever get as harsh as a lot of the PP stuff. I find my Nikon makes the greens a bit harsh so I drop them a bit every time. That made the sky a bit too yellow in this case so I pulled the red up.

Since most folks make their multiple HDR shots on a tripod they are usually a bit crisper than a handheld in-camera. That means this one will be a little softer.

A nice scene Brian I would crop about half of the dark green leaves next to the bottom frame to have the misty trees closer to the bottom frame . IMO this would improve the composition a bit.

I agree, it does. I'll be doing more with these when I get back home. My laptop is just for getting ideas for what I want to try later.

The crop looks better Brian You might also try cropping from the RHS a bit to eliminate some of the leaves standing along the right frame. I have just tried it by moving the image in lightbox , IMO it works fine and it also makes a better aspect ratio.

two more crops then I'll hold off until we get home in July.

I didn't like the bright spots on the left where the sun is shining through the trees so I brought that side in a bit.

Then I wanted to show the wide expanse of the field a bit better so I cropped to a panorama format.

That puts the mist right across the middle, which I don't like, but cropping from the top loses some bands of color in the clouds. I don't want to crop from the bottom and lose the almost hidden gateposts which, I think, subtly invite you to enter the field.

Hi Brian. It is such a nice scene that there might be many crop options. My favs are the second image (in post #6) and the last image(in post #9)

Lovely feel to the image, Brian. The pano version works best IMO due to emphasis on the field and sky.
