Re: Old Country Store (then and now)
On June 13th I received an email from Stephanie (Ralph's sister). She relyed some information that seemingly contradicts information that I had previously obtained from the Carroll Co. Deed office. It appears that, from what Stephanie related, there is a question of who actually sold the land to W.C. Caldwell circa June, 1942.
As soon as I get this clarified, I will let you readers know.

Re: Old Country Store (then and now)
Received an email from Stepahnie (Ralph's sister) today. In her email on 6/13/18, she thought that (in one of my earlier posts) I had referenced a land transaction in 1922, which I had (refer to post #168); however this was not the transaction I was looking for at the Carroll County Court House.
Apparently, this is a false alarm.
This thread is near completion (I think), and did not want any side tracks to delay the end.

Re: Old Country Store (then and now)
I have decided for the time being from not interviewing the two persons I had planned to interview regarding the Caldwell store.
Instead, Frank (Caldwell's grandson) has graciously given me permission to interview him in person. Depending on the results of this interview, I will then decide on whether interviewing the two persons I had planned to interview should go forward.
Although it appears that I have not gathered much information lately about the Caldwell store, in fact, I have.
Unless there is a twist in this tale I have not foreseen, in all appearances this tale is fast coming to a conclusion.
I imagine you all are ready for that.

Hi Bruce - I'm looking forward to the information you gather about the store and hope that it resolves the questions you have brought out about it. Good luck!

Re: Old Country Store (then and now)
I came late to this thread a couple of months ago and I have diligently read all of it and have really enjoyed the way it has developed. You have a great writing style that conveys so much, from your varying sign offs to keeping us dangling on a thread eager for the next instalment. There must be a book in there too!
I am so glad you have stuck with it!

Re: Old Country Store (then and now)
Today, I left a message for Frank to meet me at Applebee's in Carrollton. The restaurant would be a good place to meet rather than the Caldwell store. It is a lot cooler.
Since the battery is running low on my cell phone, I instructed him to email me if this is suitable for him. Will also let Frank determine the date, and time of the meeting.
I will email Stephanie to repeat what I stated to her husband via a phone message.

Re: Old Country Store (then and now)
On 6/19/18 I received a text from Stephanie (Ralph's sister). She indicated in the text that apparently she, and Frank were busy this week. Apparently, it may not be until the week of 6/24/18 that any contact from her husband will be initiated.

Re: Old Country Store (then and now)
Today it has been two years since I posted the "Old Country Store (then & now)" pics on this website. Little did I know that those two photos would lead to the two years of research that have led to the postings on this thread.
Much thanks to all the CiC members who have supported me in this endeavor. Without you all this thread would never have amounted to anything.

Re: Old Country Store (then and now)
After today's meeting with Frank, and Stephanie, you have one surprised Sleuth writing this post. Incidentally, I learned a lot about the Caldwell store. There is a lot to share; however you know me, I will not give out much information until the conclusion of my research. I need to verify some of the information I learned today; however I have no doubt that the info I received today is accurate.
Also, Frank, and Stephanie will attempt to put me in touch with another grand-daughter, if they agree to
share information with me.

Re: Old Country Store (then and now)
I have learned from a single source (which I believe is accurate) that the Caldwell store was moved to its present location circa 1942 when Caldwell purchased the land that the building now sets on. When I say that the store was moved, I mean the entire building. I still need to verify this; however I believe my single source is accurate.

Re: Old Country Store (then and now)
I have not talked to anyone since I talked with Ralph's brother-in-law (Frank), and Ralph's sister (Stephanie) a little over two weeks ago.
To expound on the story that the Caldwell store, when apparently run by the Muse family (the family that sold the store to the Caldwells). The building was moved from the intersection of Old Center Point Road, and Highway 113 to McKenzie Bridge Road which was south on Highway 113. Although I have not put an odometer to it, I estimate this was around 2 miles. At that time 113 was a dirt road. It apparently was paved sometime in the 1950's. I would like to determine where the store set at the intersection of Old Center Point Road, and 113. Much like the store's present location, Old Center Point Road ends at 113. I would like to photograph where it originally set. According to Frank, Highway 113 was configured when the road eventually was paved. He could not give me a location where it set at the intersection.
A reminder, I have not confirmed this with any other source; however I really believe that this information is accurate. Like any good journalist, I need to verify this with another source.
In post #334, I mentioned the word "coincidental" Sleuth in my closing. It reminded of my earlier thread ("History of the Roman/Episcopal Catholic Churches in Carroll Co."). The present day Roman Catholic Church is located on Old Center Point Road, about a quarter mile from its intersection with Highway 113.

Re: Old Country Store (then and now)
Hi Bruce - I have a couple of questions and maybe I missed the answers when reading over the posts. If I have, please forgive me for asking. Did you ever find out who was responsible for painting the building again? And has anyone fixed the damage that was done to the roof by the falling branch? I'm wondering who would care for the old building, if it doesn't belong to them?
Interesting too that this building was moved from its original spot to its present location. It would seem easier to build something from scratch, than to try and move it and keep from damaging it.Not sure this method of obtaining a building is cost effective? But it must have been for them to move the country store from one location to another.
Thanks for keeping us caught up in the history and development of this story.
