Thoughts after a few hundred shots using the Tamron 90 272E

My first thought is that B&H lists this as the highest rated macro lens for my Sony Alpha a58 and it may well be. Second thought is that if I had bought this lens with the camera I probably would have thrown all of the kit into the garbage. This is not a beginners lens. Third thought is that this lens can produce beautiful backgrounds.

I should mention that it has nearly twice the reach of the 18-55 that came with the camera so for me it gives me true macro and from the reactions my shots have been getting pretty good portraiture potential.

I have even managed on occasion to successfully use the manual focus. There is no way I could use it on moving objects but for still life it is possible.

All in all I am really happy that this was my choice. A low price high quality anything is hard to come by.

PS. thanks to one and all who helped with the choosing.
PPS. I am getting this result after after a hundred shots I wonder what it will allow me to capture after a few thousand?

so am I. Tamron Japan suggested that I deal with their national rep in the Philippines. So we went through him and the cost was about half of B&H

Absolutely. False modesty aside I have been working to improve my skills. And I have. But there is only so much detail the 18-55 could catch. Give it a year or two and I might be ready for smart extension tubes.
