Re: 2016 Project 52, Third Quarter by Joe/ Joebranko
Very good sun set shots Joe. Always worthwhile looking out for spectacular colours like these. I don't understand why but the first two look grainy. The third is very clear and the first quarter moon is visible. Maybe you need to consider a smaller aperture to bring out the colours and detail, but then you would need a tripod? Just a thought.

Thanks Lindsay. You are quite right. All of my recent shots have been handheld. I have been taking them when out walking the dog, a d a tripod was not possible. Now that my wife is accompanying me there is no excuse! 😀

Errr, I suspect the atmospherics (over 30km of water) played a far larger part in the resultant image than your lens Joe
That's just defeatist talk :D
I got to the same thing with my superzoom bridge camera; it was almost pointless (unless you wanted to shoot 'heat haze'), to attempt anything at over a mile or two (say 3 km) on even a warm UK day. :(
I enjoyed the "Port Dalhousie" series Joe

Just after sunrise, some crepuscular rays; A bit over processed?

I like everything about this image Joe :)

Hi Joe,
I especially like the composition of the first in series: "Another Sunrise".
The second doesn't realy do anything for me - perhaps it is the lack of anything other than clouds.
The third does not look over processed to me, in fact nicely done, but I do wonder if it is level?

I think you uploaded two more images to post #85 Joe. I already commented on #1. I also like #3 and I agree with Dave about levelling the image :)

Thanks Dave. Yes the third is not level, and in addition I had not done the lens profile correction and the horizon is also slightly concave. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Thanks Binnur. You are correct on both counts. I had added 2 more images to this thread, and the third image was not level

You are certainly getting some nice seascapes, Joe.
I like the way these birds are swimming in a V formation instead of flying. ;)

Re: 2016 Project 52, Third Quarter by Joe/ Joebranko
Looking at your second image (lovely colors) made me consider a school exercise. Our eyes (Western) are, by and large, trained to view left to right. If this image were meant to be documentary then you wouldn't mess with it by flipping it so that the dark shore was on the left. But since you are interested in composition, just try flipping it and see what you eye tells you about the image when the dark area leads you into the picture instead of stopping your eye at the right side of the image.
Just for fun!

Very interesting! I have never considered that. In fact did not know if it was possible in Lightroom, but it is and here it is! Thanks for the suggestion and for opening my eyes to this!
