    2016 Project 52, 3rd quarter by Judith Noble (Urbanflyer) C & C desired always

    Week 27 --Three To Go

This is from a shoot in 2009. I feel like I am getting a lot more facile with Photoshop and appreciate the impetus from you all to do so! I have really been working on masking and workflow for masking.

Nice effort and turnaround of an iffy image.

thanks! At the time I wanted to document the early early morning get ready--sun not quite up. But the shot seemed to have some potential used in a different way.

Colourful...but you lost quite a bit of environment with your crop. Take a look at that guy and the kids looking at the basket at the back of their vehicle. I thought he was worried or something but looking closely, that wasn't his hand near his head -- it was someone else's...

Well envisaged and nicely executed. Add working with Layers and another world opens up. Keep going.

Agree it is now a whole different picture. Perhaps I will go back to the record shot someday to see what I might do with it as a whole.

Very clear focus/DOF I can sea every little detail. Who would have though to take a pic of rail yard switches.

thanks! Before we left on our last trip, Ben said< "Grandma, will there be TRAINS where you are going?" So I made a special point of messaging him trains throughout the trip. Love my grandkids!

Good pattern with the edit but I also like the original where the tracks are leading to a bit of real life activity in the distance.

Great subject nicely captured, Judith. I'm with Geoff in thinking that the original is quite fine as well.

Week 29--The bear that wasn't there
Continuing my quest to be more proficient with Photoshop I have done another composite--I do not claim the image is great, but I sure learned a lot. I don't think I will likely pursue this kind of work, but it taught me about some aspects of Photoshop I did not know and it got me looking at light direction and shade in a more thoughtful way.

Judith, is the bear your original photo? Just asking -- this what Martin (LePetomane) told Donald -- if you see a bear almost too close in your lens, you are too close...or something like that... The legs are already cropped anyway, but it is not the right subject for your background. I understand the excitement of being able to do composite, but in this case, it is a big ask...sorry.

P.S. PHLearn by Aaron Nace has a lot of free tutorials on Photoshop and Lightroom Special Effects and composites, too...click here to look for your favourite topic...and it is not painful...

The bear is my shot--=from a car! (which explains the poor exposure). And the background was taken in the same area.

Thanks for looking. This is one of those exercises that was done as a purely technical exercise and is part of my self-challenge for the year. I wish I had had the feet, but, oh, well.

Thanks for the reference to the tutorials. I have been working with Anthony Morganti's videos which are presented in a way that I can understand. I will also look at the one you suggest.
