A very unique house Dave - I'm not sure my insurers would like it much!

You have a lot of chromatic aberration in the image; it's noticeable because there are lots of high contrast edges. It should be easy enough to remove in Lightroom if you so wished.

In keeping with the monochrome theme the first photo is part of the view from our house.

    Where I live.

This one I just had to add because I took it this morning after a night of extremely heavy rain that managed to fill my normally empty pond. It was the first time I have ever seen it nearly overflowing as it has been leaking like a sieve. A few years ago I discussed sealing it with a geotech engineer and he came up with several expensive solutions that were guaranteed for 20 years. He then said if I was patient, lined it with old carpet and grass clippings it would seal itself in under 10 years and then be guaranteed for 100 years. So it is a work in progress.

Crooked House near the Carpenter's Arms -- isn't that funny? or what? This sound like a roundabout question, but does the crooked arm of the carpenter have anything to do with the building being crooked?

BTW George corrected his image, if anyone did not read it to his response to my question, it is in #17. It is not that crooked anymore like Crooked Hilary.

Might be severe pincushion distortion, or perhaps more likely; it really is that way, given the age and state of soil and foundations.

By the way, this place (in Windsor) is currently for sale (only 1.5 million GBP)

A bit of history on Wikipedia

Yeah, it was shot and processed in 2009, when I knew a lot less and I was only using ACR in Elements.
It was also shot with a bridge camera, not a DSLR.

In fact I bought my first DSLR just 6 weeks after this was shot, likely the processing I did do* to reduce CA drove me nuts.

    * manually wiping a desaturation brush along the worst edges

See, I knew I should have re-shot and not re-used an old picture!
More fool me, especially as I give everyone else such grief over their CA - now you know where I got it from

Paul -- Post #22 @ #1 -- you know I like NZ very much. If you don't stop uploading pretty pictures like that, I will move next door to you. And that is a threat!!! Darn that is a beautiful sight to put at my front door especially if it is East facing.

Dunno, did you see the Wikipedia history link?
It was rebuilt with green (unseasoned) timber in 1718, so almost 300 years ago - I don't know whether the pub was named Carpenters Arms that long ago, or whether a later Landlord had a similar thought to yours

    I didn't correct anything
The top is leaning 88cm I read somewhere. It looks as if the leaning starts at the top segment. The lower part of the tower up till the ballustrade is made from stone. Inside there is another "tower" of wood on a separate foundations to carry the weight of the clocks.

    Dave,
I don't know on what ground that house is builded. Doesn't seem to be rocks. Houses in Amsterdam are builded on trees. They're rammed in the ground until the first sand layer. In Amsterdam mostly between 10 and 13 meters deep. Under the palace, builded as a city hall, there're 13659 piles.
It's funny to see the house to the right has windows in it facing the wall of your house.

    Hi George,

Yes, that was (once) the town hall and apparently it was hoped the crooked house would be removed (or fall down), but I gather the owner at the time was quite influential and so that never happened.

I have eaten in the crooked house, back when it was open as a 'tea shop' and more recently toured the building camera right (Windsor Guildhall) - and I've had a few pints in the Carpenters Arms too

Fairly recently, the glass in most of the windows on that side were replaced with some modern stained glass to help improve the view

    Cheers, Dave

I was thinking of something like that. There is an example in Amsterdam too. I can show you some pictures and tell the story, but they won't be my pictures. When I have made them, I'll show them and tell the story.

Hi John All very nice places and images in this thread but I'm stunned by your PP work. Could you explain how you processed this image ?

Well, bad luck. There is a construction in front of 1 building and to less wide angle.
The story is that in the second part of the 19th century a lot was changing in the city. Like many cities in Europe or the world. A new rail station was builded on a few islands in the harbour. A big mistake. Among many other buildings a big hotel was planned opposite the station. As you understand neigbouring houses had to be bought. But 2 of them refused to accept the price being offered. It took a while and than the hotel was builded around those houses. And they're still standing there. Souvenirshops.

This is a panorama of my hometown, made some years ago when my wife and I decided to have a cup of coffee at the Fåfängan restaurant, one of my favourite spots downtown. In the gap between the trees, above the table, a row of high buildings several miles away can be seen. They are on the island where I live.
