A much photographed view, but that's one of the best I've seen.
Just as a little aside - If you look at that front row of houses, just right of centre there is one that is not whitewashed like the others. We stayed in that house for a holiday/vacation a few years ago.
Thank you Donald.
The last time we visited was around 1974, at which time if my memory is correct, very few places were open on a Sunday. Ullapool is in that respect, now a much more tourist friendly place and still as wonderful as ever. It's quite a drive from home but well worth the journey.
You are quire right, Peter. And, of course, there were huge church-led protests when the ferry operator first mooted the idea of Sunday sailings and the first ever Sunday sailing was in severe doubt because of the level of protest on the pier.
All of that seems a distant memory, but as you know I'm sure, that north-west area, particularly some of the Western Isles such as Lewis, to where that ferry runs, is the last bastion of a fundamenalist form of Presbyterianism that believes that no work should be done on a Sunday and the only activity should be religious study and worship. There are some who even feed their livestock double on a Saturday so that they don't have to feed them on Sunday. Although these people are now in a very small minority they have a loud voice.
Definitely one for the Brochures Peter. This image makes the place look so inviting. Nice shot.
Classic
Peter and Donald, when I visited North Uist and Benbecula forty years ago, the ferry we took was from Uig on Skye. Does it still run or is all travel now from Ullapool?
Bruce, we travelled to Stornoway on Lewis from Ullapool. Then after our stay on Lewis and Harris we took the ferry from Tarbert (Harris) to Uig on Skye.
The following link is to the Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) site which; shows all of their destinations LINK
A view of Ullapool I have not yet seen - and I mean the blue sky as well as the general view. When I was there last year we abandoned the trip to Harris and Lewis as costing too much just to stay wet, we cancelled our ferry 1/2 hour before sailing and received a full refund, so we think CalMac are a great company and wish a few others would follow suit. It's still on the bucket list......one day.
Very nice image
