A totally different perspective...really interesting!!!!
Looks like one of the Picture-winged Flies, Brian. I find the UK versions are very difficult to photograph because they tend to frantically run around on leaves making their display and moving faster than I can focus. Even if you do find one in a static position good exposure can be tricky.
So well done with this image.

These ones tend o stay still when they are feeding for maybe 5 seconds. If I follow them around and get lucky... I have been using your technique modified for my camera. ISO 200, F/14 + or -, somewhere between 50 and 100 on the shutter and a baby booty acting as a mini tent to reduce burnt out spots.
Definitely an improvement.
