Re: 2016 Project 52, 3rd Quarter by Janis

    Thanks, Joe.

I am going to try to catch up this thread before I fall too far behind. I'm going to skip Week 35, as all I have to show are some not very good kiteboader shots that I am still trying to rescue.

    Week 36

These are from a Monday morning walk on the beach before driving back into the city for work. The sun had not yet cleared the trees and so there were interesting shadows, and warm/cool colour contrasts. I was also interested in trying to catch the waves as they broke on the rocks and the shore. I like the serendipitous quality of this kind of shooting, and the fact that it puts me in sync with nature's rhythms.

    Week 37

On this outing, I was more preoccupied by the colour and texture of the rocks.

Nicely done, you've achieved your goal on both.

What about cropping #7 from the RHS and eliminating the sky from the top? IMO a square frame would work very nice and your dog would stand out Janis

#2 and 5 are my preference; where the rock texture is still evident but the rocks are seen in a wider environment.

Yes to a little bit of cropping from the right of #7, but there are several options for a resulting image ratio and all would work. So perhaps a case of trying a few before doing anything permanent.

Thanks, Judith, John, Binnur and Geoff. As I was posting last night, I was myself thinking #7 might do with a crop.

Thanks, Binnur. Except that the lump in her mouth is now quite visible, she is doing great. She is very much herself, which is at once a source of joy and heartache. My workplace is being extremely accommodating and I am working at home four days a week so that we can enjoy autumn walks while the sun is high.

Good work, Janis. I really like this style of photography with strong foreground elements. The light on the water in number 3 makes it my favourite, also the foreground focus is excellent, great depth of field overall in number 3 as well.

    Re week 37
Good continuation of your beach series. I particularly like one and two as the texture and colour is very clear and there is enough background to provide context and perspective.

Picking up where I left off....

    Week 38

The first four were shot with the Sony pocket camera. They are from a fall walk in one of our urban forests, which contains a lovely marsh. Someday, I will have to go on a birding expedition there.

The next two were shot with the Nikon later in the week, at the lake.

These shots just go to show that, when used with care, some 'pocket cameras' can produce good results.
