Thanks, Izzie (good to see you back!), Geoff and Nandakumar. It certainly wasn't cheap, but I do like that little Sony.

    Week 38 cont'd

Sorry to be so slow getting this up. These were shot in Week 38; I don't actually think I have anything to show for Week 39. They, too, were shot with the Sony. The ones shot in lower light are maybe not so good. C&C welcome.

#8 The remnants of what last summer was an elaborate installation comprised entirely of natural objects found on the beach. I tried to photograph it several times last year, but the light was always too harsh for good results. I think this one could be better.

#9 The water was unusually low this day, affording opportunities for some different compositions. Not sure this one works.

#10 I should perhaps have stood on my tiptoes to get some more separation between those two rocks on the left.

#13 I spent at least part of Week 39 playing with CaptureOne's colour wheels.

Thanks, Judith. Those sure were curiously shaped clouds, and so oddly symmetrical! The whole scene that night was kind of surreal.

Nice set, Janis. I particularly like the two monos. I like the combination of textures of the ripples in the water and the rocks - which are reiterated in the clouds. And I like the next for its simple composition. Re your question - yes, stand up on your toes!

[I think it was you who alerted me to a tute on Lynda some months back, which I found very helpful. So, if you haven't checked out Taz Tally on composition and b&w conversions, he is well worth watching]

All of them are very nice and colourful but my favourite is #8. That scene made me think and look long and hard and examined even the surroundings. Someone must have put those two rocks (on at the top of the trunk and the other in between the two trunks.) They seem to be dancing together...

    These are working well.

Maybe with #9 more of a panoramic size which lost some of the foreground might be worth considering.

With #10, yes the rocks are rather close together but the scene looks a lot better with the full Lightbox view.

Greg, thanks for the tip. I have started watching the Taz tutorial. Very timely, as I am finally digging into Photoshop.

Nandakumar, the location is the peninsula at the south end of Lake Winnipeg, where my family has been cottaging since I was in elementary school. It is a beautiful place and very dear to my heart.

Yes, Izzie, you are looking at what is left of a whimsical art installation that a guy named Grant Town constructed out of natural found objects the summer before last. It was quite elaborate and included a large and surprisingly comfortable stone armchair (made of small, similar-sized stones) that must have washed away in a storm. I am sorry I didn't get good photos of it all.

Geoff, I do have a panoramic version, but the processing is different and I like it less so I did not post it here. I think I may revisit this one after I have learned more about b&w processing.

Appreciate your feedback as always, Binnur.

You are selling yourself short...if you didn't get good photos I will not have been staring at them all closely. Cheers.
