One of the many steam specials that normally appear around here in the summer months although this year, many have been cancelled due to line work on one of the more popular routes.

If I have one (nit-picky) observation, it would be that if mine, I'd have toned down those bright white spots in the lower left corner. (not sure if gravel or small flowers)

You have done a good job with composition, exposure (steam and sky) and white balance.

Donald, there are few pedestrian level crossings still left in the countryside around here. It means you can get down to track level. I thought I had discovered it for myself using Google map but arrived to find that this one is particularly popular with photographers. Even one with a tripod mounted i-Pad. The existence of the bridge makes it a bit more interesting.

Izzie, yes I have but (he admits quietly), it was when they were still in main line service.

John, that is a great shot. Did you pay special attention to the red guard or whatever its called. I truly believe that had it been dull in colour it would just been a 'nice' shot instead of a great shot. That is only my opinion though.

Ole, no I haven't enhanced the colour of the buffer plate (if that's what it's called?). When these heritage engines were rescued from the scrap yard and rebuilt, in most cases they were restored to their pre war privatised colours. Some of them are quite stunning. John, an ex-brother-in-law, loves trains and he is an avid collector. One day he had an opportunity to buy a carriage (if that is what it's called) from the train company operating it at the time. Since he lives in a sort of "outside of town", he had it positioned in his backyard. He restored it and made it like a spare bedroom complete with toilet and shower and another carriage as another spare bedroom. It stills stands to this day. When he had that, he was building his house there. His kids were just out of state school (elementary). Now they are all married and have at least a kid or two each. Quite a novelty.
