St. Andrew's Church, Bywell
Out last night primarily to shoot Red Squirrels but as they all disappeared as soon as the camera came out the bag then the heavens opened soaking me to the skin I went in search of something less elusive.
Massive brightness range in this scene as it was getting on a bit and the sun was low so I did take a range of exposures in the hope of a natural looking HDR but after a fair bit of fiddling I gave up and went with lashings of drama and monochrome.

Re: St. Andrew's Church, Bywell
Lovely image of a beautiful old church and churchyard. I adjusted the perspective in CS6 and selected the sky in NIK Viveza using a control point then, reduced the brightness and increased the structure to get some detail...
It is different but, I am not sure if it is any better....

Re: St. Andrew's Church, Bywell
Straightening it works, not sure about the sky. One of the files I took was very dark so the HDR software had detail to work with but it somehow looked fake with lots of sky detail in - if i get a chance I'll run one through HDR Pro 2 to post.
EDIT:
This is the result of four files normalised (HDR'd) using Lightroom with no other adjustments. Its probably a good platform to work from but I can't get away with the sky for some reason - if anyone want a fiddle by all means have at...
EDIT - EDIT:
The sun causing flair was intentionally left just in frame by the way

Re: St. Andrew's Church, Bywell
I just did a bright lights luminosity mask with a blend mode of multiply for the sky but I also used a B&W adjustment layer to remove some slight variations of violet leftover in your conversion...

I hope a lot of people take a crack at this, just to see all the variations on a single theme. Thanks for posting it, Robin.
I didn't go very crunchy and though I used an SEP2 layer, I only used it marginally in a few places for added emphasis.

Ditto - please feel free to fiddle.
I've been working on the colour version and got this which is about as clean a looking HDR as I can get.

You might want to back off the yellow slider a bit.

Oooh, playing with color..., you've made a trip back from the dentist more joyful than the visit itself....way more
I went for a more "inviting you for a look, " look..
Thank you for allowing me this bit of pain diversion......and the fun of working through someone else's thinking. It helps me in future referencing for a similar shot I might encounter.

Re: St. Andrew's Church, Bywell
The image in Post #10 now has a magenta colour cast - perhaps that was your artistic intent but it looks unnatural to me.
Cheers.

Re: St. Andrew's Church, Bywell
It was not my artistic intent..not sure where that came out of but I have fixed it...probably a result of the drugs they used on me today in the dentist's chair. I felt no pain.
