In my previous Arnol Blackhouse thread (LINK) I made reference to another Blackhouse site which we visited whilst we were on the Western Isles.
These images are from a Blackhouse village. This village as well as the museum has holiday accommodation.
Apparently these holiday homes were still in use as family homes as late as the 1970's.
#1 the exterior view
#2 The location looking towards the beach
#3 The interior of the house at #1
#4 As you will see this house has a real chimney and fireplace, complete with a stand for the kettle!. Unlike the one in my Arnol Blackhouse thread where the kettle just hung above a fire in the middle of a stone floor. The kettle stand reminded me of a little ditty (from a very long time ago) we would recite when we met up with friends on bicycles, so the kettle stand had to be captured for posterity .
I've flipped this image to make it easier for you to to read the lettering. The ditty/phrase went like this "Ride a Raleigh ride a wreck, Ride a Hercules break your neck"
PS. It seems that the above images have sharpening issues due to me downsizing them from my Flickr photostream
