After I purchased my first DSLR camera (Canon 10D - ten years ago), I retired my film camera gear (finally to sell it at next to nothing prices) and never shot another frame of film. BTW: I have not missed film a darned bit!
Janis: The concept that "At one point, John compares and contrasts the virtues of digital and film photography and suggests that the lack of immediate feedback in film may cause one to think more deeply about each shot, the difference being the time for reflection between the taking of the shot and the seeing of the results." is to me pretty lame. You can duplicate that by not chimping with your LCD and waiting a week before you open the images on your computer
Originally, film had some pretty decent winning points against early digital cameras. Price and quality beat the digitals outright. However, IMO, digital is the way to go unless you are interested in this
