Nice composition.
Now this one is interesting Brian.
I'd have said it was a damsel from the narrow abdomen and eyes, except, the wings seem to be laid flat along the body, rather than over, and it seems to have very large and thick antennae which I have never seen in Damsels before.
I am continually startled by the variety of insect life you have in your garden sanctuary.
Well it can't be a dragon; they rest with wings outstretched.
Several things look odd for a damsel as well, particularly the antennae. So possibly something else?
This tends to remind me of our UK Stoneflies but there are so many options.
Good clear photo.
Nothing like anything I have seen here. In addition to holding their wings outstretched, dragonflies (at least here) have very different heads, without the spherical eyes. Damsels hold their wings back at rest and have spherical eyes, but their antennae are different, and the species I have seen don't have wings that cover their whole bodies, e.g.:
In any case, a nice capture.
AFAIK, most bugs, other than flies, have four wings, although they aren't always so obvious.
The wings extend beyond the body as well which would be very unusual for a damsel.
I'll take a look at stone flies
I think it might be a type of antlion. The adult form, like your image, doesn't look at all like the larval form. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antlion for general information and http://onebugaday.blogspot.com/2014/10/antlion.html for a photo of an adult that looks like the one you photographed. A large photo of the adult can be found if you click on the small photo.
classic shot !
