Milky Way over Lavender Fields of Provence

Just finishing up going through my photos from my Photography School in Provence. As an added bonus we did some Astrophotography and Light Painting.

I'm not going to comment on the technicals: although I'd love to try astrophotography I haven't had a chance as yet. But I do like it very very much. My initial reaction was too much blue in the wb, but I think it works really well as a contrast to those pinks and peaches on the horizon.

Erik, is this a composite? Just asking...I like the results either way even if it is not...I am like Simon, would like to ttry astrophotography but I am in the wrong spot . The best I have done is a moon shot or two...to use as a composite to a previous project.

excellent image....blues and violets, my favorite colors....

Its a nice shot, I wish it was landscape in orientation though.

It feels a bit claustrophobic as it is.

Thanks Simon - yes I played around with colors a bit and ended up with this WB as I thought it went well with the Lavender of the fields.

It is sort of a composite. Everything from the horizon up is one photo out of the camera, I used another photo to bring in the better colors of the Lavender on the bottom (Below the Horizon)

The colors, for me, really balance out the entire image. Also with the Light Painting we did - I feel as if the Milky Way is lighting the Tree and the ground.

Thanks Matt - I did try Landscape in this Image and I felt the opposite and I felt as if the Milky Way was not prominent enough...here is a photo from the Previous Night.



I do have one of the same tree in Landscape Mode, I did not PP the image. I might try it and post it here at a later date

Thanks Matt - yes i agree the second one might be a touch overexposed - That was my first ever Astrophotography attempt and I was surprised how it came out....the other shots reflect a refinement over the night and next evening.

The light on the upper part of the tree gives it an etherial feel and depth. Really interesting.

I'm really liking all these, and like others, wish I could take a crack at this type of shooting. I'd have to drive hours to get to a dark enough sky though. Great work!
