    Opencast Mining

I'm a bit of an environmentalist and love nature, I am surrounded by the Brecon Beacons so feel quite strongly about this subject.

Ive been working on a project which is basically a photo essay on the devastating effects of opencast mining, here is one of the photos - ive processed this on my phone as my macbook has packed in and im pretty poor at the moment Opencast Mining

Is this a take on the Tianamen Square shot or a take on practicing to be a treehugger? Just asking...you forgot to ask someone to go to the driver's seat for authenticity...Nice try...Good shot idea though...I just thought you could've staged it better...

Not sure what you mean? Nothing is staged I was taking a photo of the machine and asked someone to stand next to the digger to show the scale of it.

The machines are locked and have cameras on them and the area is patrolled by security - so trying to jump into the drivers seat would not of been a good idea.

The man (was that you?) as your model has a cover on his face, I thought it was because it is necessary for the drama that you wanted to show here. In the Tianamen Square (China) shot, a guy was one of the protestors trying to stop the massacre of his fellow citizen. His face wasn't covered because he was facing the tanks.

YOur drama here is something similar with its arms folded like trying to prevent the roll of that machine behind. Do you see the comparison here now? In a different way but I see some elements I had mentioned missing. If you have that guy just stand there to show the scale of the machine, then perhaps his face shouldn't have been covered and his arms not expressing defiance, if you get what I mean...just my thoughts...
