    Lavender Fields

So this is one of my favorites - I like the deep rich color purple. This was taken early in the morning during my recent workshop. C&C Welcome - for me I think I would like just a touch more sky above the trees in the background (I may try a bit more work in PS)

Like John, I like the composition too...Now tell me the reason why you didn't have a little bit more sky...was it your choice or your instructor? I am taking a 7-day online course right now on photography but the instructor is very flexible and allow you to compose your own images without putting on his preference. I like his method.

Thanks Izzie. It really was my own choice in the end - I did not critically look at the photo on the back of the camera until after it was downloaded. For me the story is about the Lavender so that should dominate and the trees and blue sky just compliment the main focus of the image. For me just a bit more sky above the tree on the right (not much) would add a touch of balance to the image.

The instructor was very good about not suggesting the composition and just letting us wander and figure it out. Over the 5 days in Provence at times he would point out composition that we may not see - I really learned to see differently and think differently.

    Good luck with your course.

Erik, I am not sure about the composition; this is because the frontal bunch of closeup flowers which cover most of the space in the frame is not well in focus and has harsh light upon it. I think a high angle without this close-up part and bit more of sky would be more interesting... maybe just a personal preference.....

Nandakumar - I see what you are saying, I played around with the bushes in foreground a bit. I was worried if I was too high I would looks some of the "dirt trail"

I will look at some of my other photos from this time and see if there is something else along those lines to compare. Thanks for the feedback.

    Re: Lavender Fields

I just want to mention that I was recently in Provence and spent a day on one of the "lavender routes" looking for fields that are undulating like yours and/or have a tree or other major landmark like yours. All of them that I saw were flat and devoid of any interesting landmarks except for one flat field at a famous abbey. So, I'm happy for you that you found this field and used such a creative approach.

I do agree with those who mentioned that more sky would be helpful. If you have the necessary post-processing skills, that would be relatively easy to make happen.

Thanks for the feedback Binnur - something I wish I had seen when I took the photo.

Thanks Mike - we spent nearly 5 days covering the various fields. I will add a few more of my favorites.

I will most likely go back and finish this off in PS to give a little more "sky" to the photo.
