Did you crop this slightly? If you did I would suggest if you can to have a bit of a space between the left hand edge and the arm of the first cross and crop out the light object in the middle of the right hand edge.
I like the viewpoint and the DOF used. The middle of the day lighting is not helping and it should be more dramatic much earlier or later in the day when you have shadows to play with.
I agree. I wasn't sure how the left side crop would be seen and opted for the cut off, but see it detracts more than helps. The day time issue was just my timing of visiting the location; high noon. Shadows would certainly make it more interesting, but at the same time the straight-down light is very indicative of a New Mexico day time environment. Thanks for your response and observations. Regards ...
For me, this just screams to be a B&W. I played with it and the conversion works with the mid day sun more than the color does.
Great idea to try. Will do and post it (apparently you've given it go). I'll convert my file and re-post for C&C. Chris thanks for your comments. I've been clicking on your work. You do some really nice stuff with wildlife, etc. Thanks.
Great photo and colors. I particularly like the inclusion of the ruins (of a church?) with the bell tower, and the cross witb the rosary beads draping over it in foreground. I can't figure out, however, the significance of the small figurine framed in the wooden cut-out of that cross. A saint, perhaps, or a favored children's toy?
Nice shot.
I like the B&W. Perhaps a little less darkening at the top and maybe a bit of darkening at the bottom...nice that you had the original to work with as I had to rebuild the cross and add some space on the left.
Chris ... thanks, again. The exercise has been helpful. You and the responders have given me some additional useful insight. Regards.
Excellent shot; I too felt in favour of Chris' suggestion for a monochrome, but once I saw it, I felt that it is not much working , probably because of a too bright foreground which refuses contrasts.... I would like that purple thing on the left bottom corner cloned out; it distracts a bit
Last time I was in Taos was in 2003 -- and I had a great time. Anyway, that was old memories. I favoured the B/W better as too many distractions in the coloured version.
Very nice composition in the monochrome version. As for the conversion, my choice would be to use any color filter that eliminates the dark band at the top of the sky and produces darker foreground subjects. Consider trying red, blue or green for alternatives.
