The framing is really nice with head along the back which keeps the visual track always moving from back to front-center in my opinion.
I'm not a fan of zoo photos, but this is beautifully shot. Thanks for sharing.
Dave
Randy, very nice photo.
Bruce
Thanks Dave, for your kind words regarding the photo. I visit zoos regularly. I find shooting around obstacles that keep the humans and animals from each other, the lighting issues to deal with in the reptile house, and other impediments to getting a good photo challenging, and I think regularly going to zoos to photograph the animals has helped develop what skills I have. --Randy
John, Bruce, & Jim, I'm glad you all liked the wolf photo. You all produce beautiful, artistic images, and your opinions of my work are most appreciated. I hope to post other photos in the future that are well received as this one was.
I love this image...
I have a soft spot in my heart for wolves since I shared my life and my home for almost ten years with a wolf hybrid who was a wonderful animal, gentle, loyal, smart and the ultimate protector of her human and dog family.

At the time I got this wonderful girl, my area had many coyotes. I have a chain link fence but, she was more protection than the fence. One time I saw her chase off three coyotes who were on the other side of the fence. If they had tried to climb the fence, she would have eliminated them individually...
Randy, a really nice shot
Richard, Are Felix and Sara not with you now? (don't dell me "no")
Like Richard, I have a soft spot for dogs of any kind and I love big ones -- they more quieter and easier to train. Your shot is absolutely beautiful.
Thank you, Richard, for your kind words regarding my photo. I know first hand how strong a connection can be built between a pet and its owner, and the loyalty pets show to the human entrusted with their care. Your photos are wonderful, and I applaud you for the work you do to place rescue dogs in new homes. --Randy
Nandakumar, thanks for your kind words. I'm glad that you liked the photo. The wolf pack at the zoo has recently increased with the birth of three baby wolves. I hope to go next weekend and try to get a decent photo of at least one of the pups. That might be difficult, however, because the pack is in a rather large, enclosed area called Regenstein Wolf Woods. They freely roam the area, and the last few times I was at the zoo I didn't get a single shot of any member of the pack.
Hi Randy,
Yes, this is a nice shot - no sign of bars/fence/glass and a nice clean (and out of focus) background, plus the exposure, white balance and composition all hit the mark - (double plus) not least is that you told us from the off that it was shot in a zoo, which counts for a lot round here.
Well done, Dave
Excellent shot Randy![]()
Dave, thank you very much for what you wrote regarding the photo. I greatly appreciate it. I believe in full disclosure, and I will always state where a photo I post is taken and do my best to provide any information that a member might request regarding it. I have a membership at, and go to, Brookfield Zoo quite frequently. It was recently named one of the first "four institutions worldwide to receive the American Humane Association's inaugural Humane Conservation recognition." See:

If you visit the above link, there's a photo of recently-born wolf pups.

I just promised Judith I am going to go soft! ... remind me. I can be as harsh as Dave H. I have to take some photos as soon as I got my D810 back -- I missed Dave telling me off...![]()
