More Fields of Lavendar - Provence

So finished up most of the photos. Here are some of my favorites. C&C Welcome and most appreciated.

1. Sun Peeking through the tree - Fisheye photo, I really like Star Burst of the sun.




2. Lone Sunflower



3. Lone Tree - For me the simplicity of this one and the shadow makes it one of my favorites.



4. Colors - This was taken in the evening golden hours.



5. Lone Structure - Typical of this area - this might be welcome of more of a crop eliminating more of the sky.

I continue to be jealous of the lavender fields you came upon, the result of you spending five days in search of them and me spending only a day. I reviewed all of your photos of Provence and liked your attention to the details and your sometimes very creative approach.

About the photo of the man with the red umbrella walking between fields of lavender: Was he a willing participant or was he someone who simply walked into the scene with no regard for you and the other photographers? Regardless, the resulting image is wonderful.

It's possible to review larger photos displayed at your website than uploaded here to CiC. I noticed in those larger images that your sensor seems to be in desperate need of cleaning and that the dirty spots displayed in the sky need to be eliminated during post-processing. Considering the otherwise high quality of your photos, it would be a shame if you didn't attend to those details.

Mike - thanks for the feedback. It was a really great time, very tiring, but still a great time. I am working on a post regarding my lessons learned and feedback from the workshop.

We changed lens so many times in the field, as the workshop progressed my sensor became dirty for sure. I am looking online to see how best to clean it - seen a few methods. I have another trip coming up (family) for 12 days in the Med. I am debating about whether to clean the sensor now or wait until afterwards and deal with the spots in PP.

Regarding the Red Umbrella - that was staged. It is actually one of the participants in the workshop. I was surprised at how small she was in the photo - it really gives a sense of size to the fields.

Having never done it - it seems easy, should I be worried?

I was going to follow this guidance here Mainly just using the cloth (no wet to clean sensor)

I do not have room for error with my forthcoming trip....that is the only thing holding me back (at the same time it can push forward)

Buy and use the Ulead system. It is dry and produces remarkable results in little or no time at all. A good, lighted magnifying glass is helpful with any system. Make sure your battery is fully charged and you lock your mirror in the up position.

I was also afraid before cleaning my sensor the first time (rather than paying to have it cleaned). Ever since cleaning it myself that first time, I've never paid to have it cleaned. See this thread for an explanation of my experience.

Lovely set Erik My fav is the first image with the fisheye effect . Nice composition and good shooting angle in the sunflower image. Your last image is also very nice, I would crop some of the sky as you mentioned already

Erik....all of the shots here were 2016. The fisheye one is 2014? Is the starburst made up? I don't know what your aperture setting was but when I desire to make a starburst, I usually use a smaller aperture. Just a thought...It is hard to have a favourite here Erik, to my eyes they are all beautiful but bugger if I can find the lady with the umbrella. I searched and searched...Help.

Binnur - Thanks for the feedback. I really had a great time putting these together and PP. It is amazing how if you can really spend the time in the field to get the composition and exposure right, how little PP is required.

Izzie - Thanks for the feedback.

Fisheye - I first put the lens on my D7200 and realized it was not working with my CROP Sensor camera, so I had to put it on a FF (D810) and use my SD Card. I guess the owner of the camera had the year off looking at the exif data. It was shot at f/18 which I find to work well for the starburst effect.

The lady with umbrella is posted on my website with all the images from Provence . I know it is hard to find as the lady with Umbrella is not as pronounced due to the size of the fields.
