    Yes it was. My Sony Alpha a58 isn't quite in your nikons class but it is a good match for the Tamron.

    Those shiny leaf beetles are so difficult; I usually leave them alone.

    Beetles I can do but I'm having a real problem with a big hairy caterpillar today.

    I often find difficulty in getting all of a long caterpillar in focus; and they can move at quite a speed when you are attempting to position yourself for focusing.

    Sometimes the best approach is to just concentrate on the head and let everything else fade into the distance; as you have done with some other bugs.
