Re: Morning Strollers
A different perspective with the strollers not in focus, but I like it.

Re: Morning Strollers
This is what I call "artistic" shot and also thoughtful of the photographer (Chris) not to put straightforward focus on them...it makes me feel like someone is watching me ... icky! but OK...

Re: Morning Strollers
The shot was more about the ambiance of the beach. I could have "spied" on them but there was no art to that shot. It is what I always try to relate to budding photographers, "the vision is what you make it."

Re: Morning Strollers
Chris - this shot is not working for me.
The foreground is quite sharp, the two beach walkers are such a significant compositional component in this image, the softness in this image looks far more like a compositional / technical error that something that was done on purpose. I suspect this shot might have worked better had they been even more out of focus and the viewer saw a mere of a suggestion of people on the beach.
These techniques (the same goes for techniques like Dutch tilt or toning) work when they appear to have been done on purpose, rather than looking like this was the result from a poor technique.

Re: Morning Strollers
It is why photography is a representation of one's own vision of a mood. I made three different exposures, one as you suggested, one as shot and one with the fore out and the couple in. I liked the one I posted best because it suggested rather than stated a mood. I despise Dutch tilt and only rarely tone though I do a lot of toning when I do Pt/Pd/Ziatypes.

Re: Morning Strollers
I like it a lot; I find it difficult to do since choosing just the right amount of blur is critical.
