Well I have no idea what they looked like before they saw your camera but it sure looks like you've pissed them off, which is against rule 1 in Street.
I don't tink your treatment did anything to improve it.

Steve, you do know what assuming does. The woman has a teen aged daughter!! I would blame that waaaaay before John taking the picture. That is if I were going to assume.

From the angle it looks like it was a from the hip shot (I could be wrong). I don't think their look has anything to do with them noticing John and his camera. We all get in a funk at times. I took a shot not to long ago where the man had a scowl on his face, but he already had the scowl before I even took the photo. He even smiled back when I smiled at him.
