Re: Susan Hayward's Grave
On the Internet, it is fairly easy to find information on Susan Hayward (Chalkley); however information on her second husband (F. Eaton Chalkley) was harder to locate. From what I have learned from locals, and the Internet, he was a retired FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) agent. Apparently he moved to Carrollton to take over an auto dealership, and became a rancher. This was apparently the reason he, and Susan Heyward moved to Carrollton. His previous marriage was to a Dorothy Mildred Roland. This union apparently produced 3 children. One of these children (Joseph Chalkley) was born circa 1938. On a website that I could not locate again, it mentioned that Joseph died in a plane crash in Louisville, Ky., when he crashed into a mountain during a thunderstorm. This apparently happened in September, 1964. Two other websites indicated that he had died in Kentucky in 1964 due to an accident; however no other details were given. You all can draw your own conclusions. The reason I became interested in Joseph Chalkley was the fact that in September, 1964 I was just starting my senior year in high school in Louisville, when this alleged plane crash happened.
Back to F. Eaton Chalkley. He, and Ms. Hayward both converted to Catholicism. He died in 1966, at the age of 57 of apparently hepatitis. Apparently Ms. Hayward did not spend to much time in Carrollton after her husband died.
