Thanks Jim & Nandakumar. The banks of the canal are so overgrown with weeds that I was lucky to find an opening through them to get a decent shot.

Thanks, Alan. I'm glad you liked the photo. I, too, have always wondered why they are named green herons. Maybe, if the light is just right and you are at a perfect viewing angle, their back appears green. I've never seen one that appeared to me to be green. The water certainly is very green; it's algae-filled and relatively shallow.
