    Votivkurche

Really difficult lighting, I took six or seven and only this one is sharp enough but very dark. I think this was 400iso, 17mm, f5.6 and 1/30 sec so no problem with camera shake but a lot with noise.

Nice effort, did you try other camera settings?

Cheers John, yes I tried 200 iso but the light kept changing so not comparing like with like, this is the only one with a sharp window for some reason but also happens to have the highest contrast.

Was the window the only lightsource? I would've turned my back to the window if there was something of interest in the opposite direction.

Stained glass windows everywhere and darker, I didn't know how difficult the lighting would be until I got home and I got in the church at 1845, it closed at 1900 and the doors were locked with people inside. It is a bit far off the beaten track and I only went inside because I took a photo outside, was pleasantly surprised though. Thanks John.

Yes, the light is problematic....top half and bottom half needed different exposure; probably one has to take two such images and stitch them together

Definitely at least a two exposure bracket. Do your first for the window and second for the base. I would be tempted to set the camera (if you can) for a five shot bracket, and shoot in rapid fire mode to minimize handheld misalignment from camera shake. You'll end up discarding at least two of the frames.

Can you use live view at least just to see how much brighter you can make this shot as a test. I once had a difficult lighting (too much light) and turned my live view and played with the SS and/or Aperture a bit then the EX then ISO last because I do not want to change my ISO too high. It works. It doesn't take long to play with the settings first. Anyway, this is a good image. If you crop out the left hand side to match the right hand side, it will look better...at least this is my take on this. Just a thought...I kinda like this shot. It has a bit of drama in it and with it.

Cheers Izzie; composition isn't my strong point and I always try to get everything in.

Wouldn't it be nicer if you tidy it a little like this?

    Votivkurche

Loaded in ACR automatically. Did not touch any changes I can do there but I loaded your image in Viveza, increased structure to 16% Shadow adjustment to 30%.

Iwill take this down if you do not want it....

Nobody noticed the spelling mistake Izzie, it is Votivkirche. Never mind. I always try and frame right in camera, a habit acquired from my 10D but the 50D has lots more pixels and now I just stick to 17mm and then forget I intended to crop beyond some nicer ratio than 3:2.

I have done a A4 paper crop and printed this:

It turned out fine. Is that St George? Cheers Izzie

Sorry or the late respond. I was otherwise indisposed these last few weeks trying to catch up on my annual medicals. I have one more to go on Tuesday. So far, going good....

Anyway, this is a nice version you have here. I will surely do a print of this too if mine. Lately I had been considering metal prints. They look very nice on the wall...
    Cheers,
    Izzie

The last, cropped version is excellent. Those large churches are a challenge to photograph. Nicely done.
