    Sushi Zushi

I found the scene with the sign, lighting, environment, and people interesting.

It is a bit on the soft side. It was taken in a hurry from across the street tying to avoid traffic passing in front of the lens.

A very fine example of street photography. What I particularly like are the very strong shadows of the two people.

Some people might feel the presence of the lamp-post is a distraction. I don't. I like it as I think it gives depth and context to the image.

Odds are they'll be there on another day. Nicely captured, looks like a stage setting.

Out of curiosity (and not meant as a critique), since the street lamp is high above the frame and the shadows are coming from a strong light that is down low and to the right, was this a stage setting as mentioned, or perhaps a street scene caught in a vehicle's headlights? ...or something else entirely? I'm gathering from your explanation that the light source are vehicles.

Can't possibly be light source from a/or vehicle as this was shot at nearly 1:30 in the afternoon. The two looks like they work in the same establishment. I like it...I just want to ask if this was taken by the hip too, Sergio...even though it was taken across the street...

Thank you, Donald. I too liked the shadows and is part of what drew my attention. I felt the shadows and the clothing of the people made a nice juxtaposition with the sign behind them.

I also felt the lamp-post helped in creating a sense of depth.

Thanks, John. I never thought about it looking like a stage setting, but once you mentioned it, you're right.

Thanks, Jeff. I consulted the Photographer's Ephemeris.

Market street (where this was taken) runs roughly west to east. On that particular day and time in February the sun was coming from the southwest. There are many tall buildings with a lot of glass across and down the street (to their left, our right). The most likely scenario is that the light was reflecting off the buildings and then bouncing off the pavement in front of them into their faces. I have not seen the light like this again since then, and I pass by this same area almost every weekend I'm out.

It's very similar to this shot . The light was reflecting off the buildings and pavement. This was taken on S. Presa which is between Market and Commerce St. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time, and fortunately prepared.

Izzie, thank you. Please see my post above about the most likely light source.

I think they do work in the same place, and it might even be at the Sushi Zushi.

On this particular shot I did bring the camera to my eye. Since I was across the street and they were looking at each other, they didn't even notice me. If bringing the camera to my eye is going to cause them to look at me and I don't particularly want that, I will shoot from the hip.

I love this kind of candid street scene. Simple, effective and tells a story.

    Well captured.

I do a lot of this myself and a few months ago embarked on a new project focusing on some specific areas near me and hopefully I will start sharing some of them here with you all soon.
