I'm sure it is for Rio. Remember, there will be a huge number of pros out there covering the games. This will, of course, also be replicated by Nikon.

I assume people are hoping they'll be sold off as reconditioned a few weeks later!

Although whether the general public will get a look in is another thing.

In my experience, they may be offered first to people connected to/working at, the event (in some capacity).
