Love hate relationship with DV...so bloody hot in the summer and can be so frigidly cold in the winter, in fact can drop so quickly in the summer nights you can listen the the rocks crack. We used to go out for the meteor showers. Nice memory, Jim.

Thank you all. Yes DV is a land of extremes. This was taken in February during a mid-seventies day and mid-forties night. Very pleasant. I was there on New Years eve, day and it was mid-forties in the day and upper teens at night.

Yes...sounds like November or end of Fall season to go there. Good texture on the first one, Jim. Love the layers on the second one. Excellent composition and exposures.

I think any time between Nov and Mar is good. At any time, you may be in store for heat or intense cold. As long as you're prepared. 19F at night on New Years eve with a roaring fire, ski pants and a dozen climbing friends, good food and a bit of whiskey. 19F felt quite warm. Here's a few showing the climbs (and showing off a bit). Look at the snow on the last one, in the desert. Land of extremes, for sure.

I didn't take these, I'm in these, but I have permission to share them.

Thank you Izzie and Nandakumar. No matter how technically good or flawed, if a shot brings appreciation, emotion, memories, it's a successful capture. These mountains and deserts of California speak to me and it's fun to share them with you all.

Jim...I am glad you shared these shots with us...the last batch made me feel so scared for that last person in #1...but you all took it in your stride as the second and third shots showed. It will be nice to know who you are in one of these shots...you do not have to if you do not want to...just curious.

Amazing landscapes and great shots. We have nothing like this in the UK, though I have seen something similar in the High Atlas of Morocco.

    Izzie,
I'm the last person you mention in the 1st shot. The person in the 2nd and the 4th person back in the last shot. Just above my lady in red. That's my girlfriend. Love and sublimity. Between you and me (and the rest of the internet) we fell in love on this trip.

Ahhhh….I am glad for all the smiles there. I guess I am a sucker for fun and love feelings. I have heard of something similar about relationships. But wait! I think I am thinking about my eldest son. ☺They met and fell in love on a trip too, but in the Northern Territory. Now they have a new house and my cheeky granddaughter. But that's another beautiful story. Keep smiling...laughing and talking to one another...
