Now for something completely different. C&C welcome

This was a bit out of focus anyway. So I decided to throw caution to the wind and process the daylights out of it (into it?)

The original intent was to capture an almost impressionist version of the scene with the subject being the overall interaction of light, texture and form on the field. Decided to go fullout as I could not salvage the out of focus foreground anyway.

Now for something completely different. C&C welcome

It's always nice to see someone doing what I rarely do -- stretching beyond the comfort zone. This style is very worthwhile and this image is a good start, so I encourage you to continue making this type of image. Consider making images like this much more out of focus, with vaseline or some other gel smeared over a UV filter, captured while panning, etc., etc.

A negative response is of more value than a positive one, especially as this is a new area for me.

The blue colour was present in the out of camera image. i decided that since i was going into uncharted territory I may as well exaggerate all the colours with no preference and see where it took me. I appreciate the blue and purple look a little strange, but then the entire image is an experiment. I will have to live with it for a while to see how i feel.

The attempt at this came from a discussion at work about abstract art several days ago . I had not chucked the original out in culling and when it came up on the computer screen (I run my images as a screen saver on my computer) I spontaneously decided to experiment with it. This is so far out of my comfort zone that I really had no internal compass. However as things progressed i went with my gut feelings and stopped when it felt weirdly right.

A good experiment and pushing my boundaries artistically was good. The result may be debatable, and I am sure it is. I note from the lack of response that it may be too hideous, or too blase for most viewers That in itself is of value. At any rate I like the result. Another potential arrow in the quiver

I actually think it has so little value that its value can accidentally be deceiving. Tastes run relatively conservatively here at CiC, so the reaction you noted apply only to the people posting messages here, not necessarily the reaction of "most viewers" in general in the world of photography. As a result, people rarely post anything more adventuresome on a regular basis here than relatively documentary, straightforward styles of photography. That becomes a cycle of posted images and critiques of them that inherently shuns for the most part appreciation for the more artistic styles of photography.

In other words, experiment with extending your passion for other styles of photography and go for it!

All great inventions come after several experimentations, failed or otherwise

As landscapes are hardly my forte I hope you forgive my impudence? I think of fields as oceans with all parts flowing together.

Always good to see another version. More grist for the mill to see another vision. The change is subtle and I will have to mull it over

Absolutely. In this field of photography there is little right or wrong and acres of 'but I like it this way'.

    Hi Trevor,

Ah liked the style but not the top greens and sunset...so ah chopped them. Ah take a lot of this style of "painterly" photos...Simple crop and upped sharpening (a lot), that's all - less is more. Try capturing photos with focus slightly off. Ah prefer framing a shot, then backing off 'til just out of focus in say... the central area. So that rather than blurring and saturating in PP, yer still getting what ye see through the lens. There's much more scope (believe it or not) , in using the camera and lens, with a deliberate choice of background than there is in the digital darkroom...

    My interpretation...

Robert you have done the crop I was about to suggest. It works for me as it simplifies the colour range and seems to make it more cohesive.

I saw this yesterday, Trevor but I wasn't on-line and can't go online so do not give up yet as to how many responded quickly to your post. We do not all live in Canada you know... As for your image, I am afraid I will have to go the way of Boab's thinking. He did a very good job of interpreting your shot and sharpening what needed to be sharpened. Now the image is more cohesive and artsy.

Good advice and version. Having points from someone who does this sort of image is very useful. I see this as an option to increase my enjoyment when out shooting. I recently added Back and White as an option, this will give me another way of viewing a scene to produce a final image.
