Re: Provence: Arles in monochrome
Excellent shots; kindly include a brief description of the place, like its distance from your home, a village, a city, known for this or that etc

Mike these are very good indeed. They really capture the atmosphere of this fascinating place. Love the composition of the last one.
Did you go to Les Baux-de-Provence ?

What a nice series. No. 4 is a stunner and perfect for Mono. How much did you pay the couple on the steps. Perfect positioning. Ditto incidentally for the young boy in No.3.

Re: Provence: Arles in monochrome
Thank you, everyone!
Nandakumar: Arles is a city in the southwest region of Provence in France. It's known for its archaeological structures such as the amphitheater shown in the last photo, some Roman baths and its ancient theater.
Dave: No, unfortunately we didn't get to Les Baux. We concentrated on the western side from north to south of Provence.
John: As I was changing lenses to take the last photo, I was silently praying that the couple on the right wouldn't get up and leave before I could release the shutter. The boy in the third image was nothing more than a grab shot; it's fairly heavily cropped from a larger image because I had the wrong lens on for that shot but couldn't resist taking it as he played among the arches.

Re: Provence: Arles in monochrome
Thanks, Steve! Yes, Van Gogh lived in Arles. Many of the subjects he painted can be visited today though we only walked by a cafe he painted and never sought out any of his subjects.

Very nice set. I particularly like how the strollers and diners give a base to the building. I'd also love to see this one in color...
Never been to Provence but, I really like the Provencal style of cooking...

Re: Provence: Arles in monochrome
A great set Mike
Very nice conversions and compositions. The car and the street on the LHS of the first image seems a bit too dark to me but I'm dead tired because of moving and may be I' m not in the position of commenting properly. So, if that part is not too dark for you, please don't take any notice of me
