Keep your eye on the frisbee

Last night I was at a beach in Vancouver and some people had this black lab with them. He was having a blast running into the water to retrieve the frisbee. I managed to grab this quick shot when he came out of the water and shook. I love the look on his face It isn't really a great shot but I thought it was a fun on so I would share it for your enjoyment.

It Is A Great Shot... I love how the face is clear of the spray flying in all directions from his body.

It isn't really a great shot but I thought it was a fun on so I would share it for your enjoyment.

It is interesting how we define 'a great shot'. I think it is a great shot. It's a tremendous subject, it's very well exposed and you've pretty-well nailed the focus on the dog's head.

Yes, it's amusing. Yes, it was a grab shot. Yes, it's not an amazing sunset. But that doesn't mean it's not a great shot. I think it's a superb bit of photography.

Rita, I tried this with a global +25 structure sider of NIK Viveza and it tends to pop out more. Especially the water droplets covering the entire frame...



Ted, although I am pretty well experienced with dogs, I am not physiologically adept. I may be wrong in this statement but, I think that dogs, when they are targeting someone/something, are able to keep that subject in view/in focus; no matter their head angle.

Donald, I am my worst critique. Not so much when I look at other peoples images but when I look at my own I tend to see what isn't there rather than what is. If I see that there is enough 'not there' then I conclude that the image isn't so good. My friends all tell me that I am way too hard on myself, perhaps I should start listening to them.

You can be your own best critic and you can be your own worst critic. If you're over-positive and not prepared to recognise what is not good enough, then there is nothing worse. But you also have to be aware of not being over-critical and need to be able to recognise and acknowledge what is good.

I don't think you want to go all the way with your friends, as their tendency will be to want to say nice things.

Hitting that middle way is not easy, but you're are certainly coming at it from the right direction.
